What are the causes of menstrual disorders?

Causes of menstrual disorders are broadly divided into three categories:

  • Diet:- Excessive consumption of (1) hot food and drinks; (2) salt; (3) sour, bitter and pungent foods; (4) hot meals; and (5) intoxicating drinks such as alcohol can cause menstrual irregularities.
  • Lifestyle:- Taking medicines or other habitual substances through the nose during menstruation, sup­pression of natural urges, sleeping during the day, inadequate sleep during the night and excess of sexual intercourse are some of the causes of menstrual irr­egularities.
  • Environment:- Exposure to heat and fire and Smoking can also cause menstrual irregularities.
